Intestinal contents

The intestine is not empty, of course, but full intestinal contents. This intestinal content consists primarily of food in different digestive conditions.

In the upper part of the small intestine, the chyme is still partially recognizable as food. As it progresses, it is further and further disassembled. The nutrients gradually pass into the blood, leaving only indigestible residues in the lower part of the small intestine and finally in the large intestine.

High intestinal contents due to constipation

Depending on how quickly digestion takes place, the amount of intestinal contents varies greatly.

In some people, the remains of the food they eat are excreted as stool within a day, in others, the food pulp remains in the intestine for several days until it reaches the end of the colon.

If the mash remains for a longer period of time, it usually becomes constipated, as more and more liquid is withdrawn from the faeces every hour. In the end the manure is more or less hard and can only be excreted with difficulty.

Because constipation takes longer for food to be excreted, there is usually more food porridge in the intestine than in people with a rapid digestion.

This difference can be noticeable on the scale and tape measure.

This is probably also the reason why many people who want to lose weight try to help the slim line with laxatives. However, the long-term use of laxatives usually leads to habituation, so that the natural digestion functions increasingly poorly. If diarrhea is removed to such an extent that diarrhoea occurs, a loss of minerals can also occur, which can lead to damage to health.

Better than ample regular laxatives is an optimization of the diet for digestion. Wholemeal products are particularly effective against constipation if tolerated. A lot of vegetables, fruit and salad are also good.

Furthermore, one should drink enough so that the body is not forced to cover its water needs too much from the intestines. A minimum of exercise is also important to stimulate digestion.

intestinal bacteria

Especially in the colon live billions of intestinal bacteria that help digestion and produce vitamins.

These intestinal bacteria, also called intestinal flora, are necessary for human health. So we live in a symbiosis with these intestinal inhabitants.

The intestinal bacteria are so numerous that together they weigh several kilos.

There are very different types of bacteria in the intestine. Some of them, the firmicutes, use the food particularly effectively, so that the body receives more calories from the food. These firmicutes can be a real blessing in times of need.

But in times of overabundance of food firmicutes promote the emergence of overweight.

Studies have shown that overweight people have a particularly large number of firmicutes in their intestines.

So if you are overweight, you have the bacteria in your intestines to keep gaining weight.

But if you manage to lose weight, the number of firmicutes in the intestines gradually decreases. One is not completely helpless at the mercy of these intestinal bacteria.
